Volunteers

This page is your go-to resource for representing the Common Ground Foundation and The Junction at community events. Here, you'll find key talking points, engagement strategies, and logistical details to help you connect effectively with the community and ensure our presence is consistent, impactful, and unified. Together, we can build a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and heard!

Key Roles and Responsibilities

To make our events successful, we need enthusiastic volunteers to fill the following roles:

  1. Greeters

    • Purpose: Create a warm and inviting first impression for all attendees.

    • Responsibilities: Welcome participants, provide an overview of the event, and direct them to key areas and activities.

  2. Information Guides

    • Purpose: Ensure attendees have the information they need to fully participate.

    • Responsibilities: Assist visitors with questions about The Junction, provide insights into our vision, and offer guidance on how they can get involved.

  3. Engagement Facilitators

    • Purpose: Foster meaningful connections and gather valuable community feedback.

    • Responsibilities: Lead conversations, ask open-ended questions, and encourage visitors to share their ideas and experiences.

  4. Activity Coordinators

    • Purpose: Keep our activities engaging, fun, and smoothly run.

    • Responsibilities: Manage interactive activities like The Swag Wheel, feedback surveys, and more, ensuring everyone has a memorable experience.

Talking Points for Volunteers

Use these key phrases to spark meaningful conversations and keep our messaging consistent across all interactions:

  • “Come alongside us in creating a community hub that’s truly by and for the community.”

  • “The Junction is where neighbours connect, support each other, and grow together.”

  • “We’re building a place that fosters belonging, collaboration, and lasting partnerships.”

Encourage visitors to share their ideas and vision for The Junction by asking:

  • "What do you love about your community?

  • "What would you like to improve?"

  • "How can The Junction best serve your needs and aspirations?"

Engagement Strategies

Start with an Icebreaker

  • "Hey! Do you have a few minutes to talk about community-building?"

  • "We’re building North Calgary’s newest community hub. How can we make it special for you?"

Listen Actively

  • Show genuine interest in what attendees share.

  • Affirm their value by thanking them for their feedback and ideas.

  • Use follow-up questions to delve deeper into their thoughts and encourage more detailed input.

Direct to Action

  • Invite them to sign up for our newsletter or join a focus group for more in-depth engagement.

  • Provide postcards and contact information to stay up-to-date with our progress.
